Meet the Designer

I would have never imagined being the founder and designer of a jewelry business, but let me tell ya, I feel so comfortable in this space.

I can vividly recall the two single events that inspired me to create my jewelry designs. The first being the world events that shook the nation in 2020. We experienced a pandemic followed by a global movement for racial justice. Like so many others I struggled to find a way to be a voice for myself and others in my own unique way.

The second event that fast tracked my jewelry journey happened in 2021 when a bill was passed by Congress to set aside Juneteenth, or June 19, as a federal holiday. Like many holidays, big box stores found ways to monetize the day. One store in particular, which is a national chain, stocked products with very offensive packaging that stereotyped a specific group of people.  Again, I struggled to find a way to outwardly express my voice in the world for their lack of empathy.

Stylized Heritage was my vision that grew from a conversation I had with my mom about flaunting my Juneteenth pride and the design work of a local San Francisco artist Douglas Brett.

You see, Doug is an artist who has a fantastic store in San Francisco that showcases his work.  In 2019 I strolled in his store and fell in love and purchased 6 custom designed pieces.

Fast forward to 2022.  I was visiting my mom in a recovery facility when we started talking about ways to spotlight Juneteenth, after discussing the callousness of the major retailer. We talked and played with a number of creative ideas to showcase Juneteenth and out of nowhere I was inspired by my muse!

I envisioned juxtaposing Doug’s art with movements, moments and emotions that expressed my voice. Long story short, I contacted Doug who graciously and generously agreed to show me a few tip and tricks to bring my vision (and designs) to life.

I joined my local lapidary that has a silver shop and met Edy, a wonderful giving person who worked with me to practice and perfect my wax skills. Edy encouraged me to try new techniques, some traditional and others she developed herself.

Today, I am the proud owner and designer of Stylized Heritage, a California jewelry company creating sterling silver word art to encourage others to Be Bold, Be Expressive and Uniquely YOU.
